“These are not the actions of a man. They are crimes of a monster.” —Trump, in his televised address from the White House Diplomatic Room, 4/7/2018

Annihilation tactics evolve from attrition tactics, that is, these
troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria surround the enemy, are
attempts to “throw them on their back foot” according to the not
active Mattis. I woke up on an inflatable mattress, I dreamed the
air inside the mattress sarin gas, men over my body, not the actions
of men but that of aliens made inky under operating lights. That of
many attempts to observe a body sleeping, gassed, sleeping atop a
certain synthetic organophosphorus compound, like I owe a man
my waking, as we owe men our waking. I join a coffee line, they
all seem so happy in this weather, the sun out. Our manners are
always to disappear atrocity into transaction, to say of these crimes
that they occur at a distance from our nitro iced coffee, our scones of
cranberry and walnut, our purchase of the New York Times. In a
definition, it means to warn. Demonstrative, singed by a monster.
